CANSKATE

LEVELS: CanSkate Badges 1, 2, 3, 4

Learn to skate classes focus on the skills of skating forward and backwards, developing Agility, Balance and Control. Skaters learn to skate through group instruction, circuits and games. Professional coaches oversee these sessions with help from our Program Assistants. Skaters earn badges and ribbons for various stages of accomplishment. Parents do not accompany their children on the ice. Group sizes vary according to the requirements of registration.

APPROPRIATE DRESS & EQUIPMENT: Skates are not provided. For CanSkate, it is recommended that you purchase lace-up skates rather than the molded skates. Have skates sharpened before the first class. Mittens are required. Layered clothing is recommended as bulky snowsuits can hinder movement.

Well fitting HOCKEY/SKI HELMETS are MANDATORY. A visor and/or cage are optional.

PRE-STAR

LEVELS: CanSkate Badges 5 and 6

The Pre-Star Program is a stepping stone between CanSkate and Figure Skating (Test Program). It focuses on the sills of edges, spins, jumps, and stroking though on ice group instruction. Skaters will continue to achieve Skate Canada badges and ribbons as well as learning more advanced skills specific to figure skating. APPROPRIATE DRESS & EQUIPMENT In this program Helmets become optional once a skater has passed STAGE 5 but at that are at parental discretion.

FIGURE SKATES ARE REQUIRED. Skates are not provided. Have skates sharpened before the first class. Mittens or gloves are required. Layered clothing is recommended as along with stretchy pants or skating tights with dresses (movable pants for boys) as to not hinder movement. NO JEANS PLEASE.

POWERSKATE

LEVELS: Initiation/Novice – Atom/Peweee – Bantam/Midget

PowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. CanPowerSkate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve. CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards. For safety reasons participants should wear full hockey equipment that is CSA approved.

STAR SKATE

STAR 1 & 2

2 to 4 days a week. Group coaching and private lessons.

STAR 3+ (Full Year Program only)

2 to 5 days a week. Private lessons and limited group coaching.
